Congratulations are in order for four fabulous fourth grade reporters and teachers from R. E. Baker and Apple Glen Elementary for winning the first Peel Mansion essay contest. Students, families, teachers, Mayor Bob McCaslin, and State Representative Tim Summers gathered for a reception at the Peel Mansion on Dec. 19th. Certificates and prizes were awarded at that time, as well as a private tour of the Peel Mansion, which was still beautifully decorated for the Christmas season.
These wonderful essays are available for download below. This truly exemplifies how these students, while participating in many hands on learning experiences throughout the day, could produce written products that meet the core curriculum standards. These productive learners will help carry on the legacy of Colonel Peel and the history of this magnificent mansion for generations to come. We are excited about awarding them for this accomplishment!
Many thanks to Phyllis Abraham for making this inaugural essay contest possible!
